What is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment is an alternative to traditional orthodontics to straighten teeth without the use of metal or ceramic brackets. Instead, a series of clear and removable plastic aligners are used to straighten teeth, therefore the treatment is virtually invisible. This is especially great for adults who wish to straighten their teeth without the unesthetic use of brackets and wires. Individuals that have dental crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, deep or open bites can be good candidates for Invisalign treatment.

Will Invisalign work for me, and how do I get started?

  • If you are interested in Invisalign, a records appointment is scheduled to gather the proper information including x-rays, assessing your bite, taking pictures, and taking impressions of your teeth. There is a charge for this appointment.
  • A second consultation appointment is scheduled to discuss the records including showing a computer rendering of your teeth straightened, approximate treatment time, and costs. There is usually no charge for this appointment, and if you wish to decline treatment then no other charges will be made.
  • Financial monthly payment plans are available for Invisalign treatment, as on average, the total cost can range from $3000-5000 depending on the complexity of the case (excluding the cost of initial records). Some insurance plans can cover Invisalign treatment partially, and an estimate will be sent to your plan to determine coverage. If you are ready to proceed with treatment, an initial deposit will be taken to cover the laboratory costs to make your Invisalign trays, then a monthly payment schedule will be arranged.
  • Treatment time on average is 12 months, but can be shorter or longer depending on the complexity of your teeth. Subsequent appointments are scheduled every 4-6 weeks to check the progress of your tooth movement, reshape teeth to allow for tooth movement, and deliver the next set of aligners.
  • Successful treatment involves wearing your trays at a minimum of 20 hours/day (removed only when eating, drinking liquids other than water and brushing), and coming to your appointments every 4-6 weeks to check tooth movement and to make any necessary adjustments.
  • At the end of treatment, retainers will be given (included in your overall cost). Either a removable clear retainer or a fixed retainer (bonded to the back of your teeth) will be made depending on the individual. Retainers hold teeth into their final position to prevent relapse.
